CHOISSISSEZ BIEN, CHOISSISSEZ TOUJOURS LE SUCCES! / CHOOSE WELL, ALWAYS CHOOSE SUCCESS!

Honore Bunduki Kwany
Academic Dean Of UCBC

The Bible tells us everything on earth has its own time and its own season: there is a time for birth and death, a time to begin and a time to end[1]… In fact, all end is a new beginning and its unfolding depends on choices that are made by the person who faces a situation.
All choice implies taking a risk but there are promptings that can lead a person to make a good choice, that is, a choice that considers is the reference person or the guiding person in the choice, the quality of the thing to be chosen and the capacity to discern alternatives. Six or four years back, a group of young people chose the Christian Bilingual University of the Congo (UCBC) for their training in order to become agents of transformation in the Congolese society upon completion of their studies. This academic year 2012-2013, UCBC is happy and proud to release 79 ‘Licence’ Degree students on the market of employment; among them are 13 graduates in Economics, 6 in Communication (in the Old System/PADEM) and 24 others in Economics, 19 in Communication (in the LMD Framework). To these are added 17 other graduates for the undergraduate degree program, 7 in Theology and 10 in Applied Sciences, Computer Engineering.
It was a long way with valleys and hills but the Lord has been faithful. His gracious hand has seen us through thanks to the efforts of many colleagues among whom are all teachings staffs (full time and visiting), professors, assistants and others. To all we are deeply grateful. We could not have made it without the contribution and support of the administrative and technical personnel to whom we also extend our gratitude. They have significantly contributed to make these students become leaders and agents who are ready to serve their nation and bring change in it.
To you comrades who have completed your studies and are ready to serve, remember that life itself is a school. We encourage you to pursue a lifelong training and formation through reading, attending symposiums and conferences in order to become the voice of the voiceless in your respective communities. We believe that you are equipped to serve and bring transformation. We recommend you to follow what the Bible advises us «But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you[2]». In other words, have faith in God as the foundation of your actions and all your choices, and «make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love[3]». In so doing, you will have a fruitful career and ministry and a radiant future for yourself, for your family, for your church and for your nation, the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Your choices will determine your success in your professional career and in the work of community transformation.

MESSAGE OF RECTOR, Dr. David KASALI (Graduation 2013): GO FORTH, BUT NEVER FORGET WHERE YOU COME FROM

                                Dr David M. KASALI
It’s with great joy that I take this opportunity to congratulate you, our graduates of the 2012-13 academic year and to thank families and friends who have come to share the joy of your accomplishments that we celebrate today.  I thank God for you, our dedicated staff, faculty and partners. Your tireless efforts and commitment to UCBC’s vision, values and innovative approach have made this university what it is today. UCBC is truly a university of the future, committed to innovation for transformation.
This graduation is special and unique: for the first time UCBC is graduating students with LMD and PADEM Licence. As we release you today to serve in the world and specifically to serve Congo, my word to you, our graduates, is:
We have sufficiently and wholeheartedly trained you, now go forth with courage and confidence; but never forget where you come from.
Go Forth with Courage and Confidence: Facing the world outside there, being employed in businesses, politics, NGOs, etc, you will quickly realize that it's a different world from that which you have experienced at UCBC. It’s a world where the tyranny of our culture wants you to believe that wealth, power and social status will bring you happiness and satisfaction. Exploitation and abuses of all types, social evils, the world of spirits are the order of the day. This is simply not true. So, do not forget where you come from.
Never Forget where you Come From: You are and will always be proud graduates of UCBC. Your life motto is: Being Transformed to Transform. Let the example of Jesus carry you through:
Just as the son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many (Matt. 20.28).
I beg you to remain dedicated to the values and teachings you have received. Commit yourself to God, to your family, to personal integrity, to hard work, to compassion and to visions that are bigger than yourself.  That's what you have been taught at UCBC.

Therefore go forth with courage and confidence, but never forget where you come from!
